RB Leipzig – Mainz 05

RB Leipzig start their Bundesliga season on Sunday when they will host Mainz 05 at the Red Bull Arena in the city of Leipzig. The home team has high expectations for the upcoming season, so let’s preview their first match.

RB Leipzig’s manager Julian Nagelsmann starts his second season at the club. His first one was tremendous as Leipzig reached the 1/2-finals of the Champions League for a first time in their history. Nagelsmann and the team put the bar high for themselves, so now they are up for a serious task.

Leipzig already played their first official game for the 2020/21 season. The Red Bulls reached easily the second round of the DFB Pokal. They paid a visit to Nurnberg and achieved a confident 3-0 win. Timo Werner’s replacement Hwang Hee-Chan scored his first goal for the club, while Haidara and Poulsen also scored for the visiting team.

How will RB Leipzig do in the Bundesliga without Timo Werner? That’s a good question. We shall wait to see the answer.

Mainz 05 scored five goals in their first official game for the season. They had a meeting with Havelse in the first round of the DFB Pokal and rocked a 5-1 win at the Opel Arena. The French target man Jean Mateta scored a hattrick, while Adam Szalai and Robin Quaison also put the ball in the net for Mainz.

In the Bundesliga it’s probably going to be the same thing for Mainz again – a fight for survival. It won’t be easy for the head coach Achim Beierlorzer and his boys, but that’s the reality for them at the moment.

These are our thoughts about the Bundesliga game from the first round between RB Leipzig and Mainz 05 on Sunday. We all expect to see the Red Bull kick off their season with a win, but let’s see.
